The waterfront is in the riverside community of Perimirim, in the Ilhas region of the municipality of Augusto Corrêa, about 12 km from the town center. Access is by a dirt road crossed by three rivers and bridges, through mangroves and extractive communities of Resex Araí Peroba, giving visitors a chance to take in the Amazon biome and meet local residents, whose main activity is small-scale fishing from small boats and fishing corrals. Perimirim is a traditional fishing community facing the bay of the Urumajó River, which meets the Atlantic Ocean. Known in the region for holding its Regatas event every year in September, the windy season, it has Saint Peter as its patron saint, celebrated on June 29. Interestingly, Perimirim was settled around 1974, with the arrival of residents from the islands of Coroa Comprida, Camarau-Açu, and Muruci, who had been “driven out” by the erosion that destroyed part of those islands.
