Description

The final section of the Rio Claro Water Loop takes visitors back to the starting point, departing from the locality of Pouso Sêco, a subdistrict of Getulândia. Most of the route is downhill, passing by historic stones dating back to the imperial era, as well as the iconic Pedra do Rastro. Along the final part of the route, natural viewpoints provide a beautiful view of the center of Rio Claro amidst the greenery.

Route

The final section starts at Pouso Seco, at the fork between RJ-139 and Estrada do Sertão dos Hortelãs. Landmarks include the Armazém Pé de Serra and a sign reading “Estrada Caminho Novo ‘Pouso Seco’ / Estrada Joaquim Lemos de Oliveira.” From there, the route ascends gently for about 2.9 km along an asphalted road. At the fork, turn left to leave Estrada do Sertão dos Hortelãs as the asphalt ends. The trail then continues along a wide dirt and rocky road, easy to navigate, with a steady uphill, alternating between vegetated areas and open stretches exposed to the weather. Next, it passes a “pé de moleque” (cobblestone) road section with beautiful panoramic views of the rural landscape, including forested areas and pastures with cattle on private properties. After Pedra do Rastro, the path descends on an eroded dirt road with gullies, heading down toward the city of Rio Claro. The route ends in the urban area at Praça Fagundes Varela, in front of the Casa da Cultura — the same point where section 1 begins.
