Description

The Uricanal crossing, which connects the neighborhoods of Caxambu and Bonfim, is largely accompanied by rivers that form pools and crystal-clear waterfalls, great stopping points for a refreshing swim. Along this stretch, hikers traverse a dense forest with great biodiversity. The "Hunter's Den" is a unique attraction. Used for years for illegal hunting, it now serves as a shelter for hikers. With a little more time, visitors have the opportunity to explore the "Pinheirinhos" and the peak of Alcobaça, attractions that are off the main trail but worth the visit.

Route

From downtown Petrópolis/RJ, at Praça Duque de Caxias, take bus line 470 - Santa Isabel (PetroIta bus company) and get off at the little center of Santa Isabel. From the little center of the neighborhood, cross the street toward a small bridge, cross it, and follow the street to the right, going uphill. At the first fork, turn right onto a small cobblestone road and continue until you notice a three-way fork: the right is a private uphill road, the left is a downhill road to other properties in the area, and the middle is the path that leads to the trail entrance. Once you enter the forest, watch for the fork in this section: the right goes to Pinheirinhos and the left to Uricanal. The trail crosses the stream several times, so take extra care when crossing. The traverse ends in the Bonfim neighborhood, where you take bus line 611 - Bonfim/Pinheiral (TURP bus company) to the Terminal de Corrêas, and from there on to downtown Petrópolis. Note: Since there is a long section between getting off the bus and the actual trail entrance, this adds 4 km to the route.
