Description
This trail offers a unique view of one of the postcards of the State of Rio de Janeiro: the city of Búzios. Part of the Costa do Sol State Park and one of the highest points in the city, the Serra das Emerências is a rare site for the preservation of Brazilian fauna and flora. The mountain is part of the largest and most important pau-brasil reserve in the Fluminense territory, concentrating primary vegetation and still housing endangered species such as the maned sloth, the golden lion tamarin, and the capuchin monkey. The cactus known as "white head," which can reach 7 m in height, has its largest concentration there, and species of bromeliads and other rare specimens from the Atlantic Forest make the site a frequent visiting spot for biologists and researchers. To reach the highest point of the mountain, 180 m above sea level, the hike is easy, following a 3.2 km route. The landscape includes panoramic views of the Búzios peninsula and some points in the Região dos Lagos, such as Cabo Frio. It is also possible to paraglide from the ramp located there, landing at Tucuns Beach.
