Description

The Water Circuit is one of the three circuits within the Ibitipoca State Park in Minas Gerais. It is the smallest of them, with only 5 km in length. And although it is not the most famous, it is one of the most beautiful routes within this Conservation Unit. The hike takes you past several waterfalls and natural pools, grottos, caves, and truly amazing viewpoints. The region is located in the Mantiqueira Mountains.

Tips

In fall and spring, the waterfalls and natural pools are ideal for swimming and having fun. The Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca can be visited all year round! Watch out in winter: despite the little rain, the region can be quite cold. Summer is a season of heavy rain, but the heat makes the region's waters wonderful!

Route

The trail along the Circuito das Águas passes the attractions Lago dos Espelhos, Lago Negro, Prainha, Lago das Miragens, Ponte de Pedra, Cachoeira dos Macacos, Paredão de Santo Antônio, and Rio do Salto. It is a simple hike that requires little physical effort, making it ideal to do with children. The trail runs through typical mountain vegetation, rock formations, and birdsong that catch the attention of the most observant. The restaurant inside the park marks the trailhead, but those on foot will need to walk about 1.5 km from the entrance. The Prainha is the very first attraction, right next to the restaurant. It is a small river beach with shallow water. It gets quite crowded because it is easily accessible. Going upstream along the riverbank, there are some pools and potholes that are good for a swim. The Praia das Elfas is the least-known spot, ideal for those who want to relax.
