RPPN Ernesto Vargas Baptista

Description
The Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural – RPPN - Ernesto Vargas Baptista is a protected area created in a remnant area in Porto Morumbi, 20 km from Eldorado-MS. Ernesto, together with his brother Leocindo, is considered the founder of Porto Morumbi in the 1950s. The RPPN lies in the Atlantic Forest biome, in an area defined by the Ministério do Meio Ambiente as an extremely high priority for conservation. Its geographic location is strategic, set in an area of local, regional, national and international environmental relevance and of great scenic beauty. Along approximately 750 m, it borders the right bank of the Rio Paraná to the west, on the river's last undammed stretch before the Lago de Itaipu Binacional. The reserve was classified by Imasul as a wetland, a very fragile type of area of great importance for preservation (a breeding site, shelter and food source for local and migratory fauna – birds).
