PETAR - Núcleo Casa de Pedra

Description
Created in 1958 with more than 35,750 hectares, the Parque Estadual Turístico do Alto Ribeira - PETAR is located in the Vale do Ribeira, in the south of the State of São Paulo, and is territorially contiguous with the Parque Estadual de Intervales. Besides harboring an important remnant of Atlantic Forest, PETAR has more than 400 caves of exuberant beauty, with unique underground landscapes and a wide morphological variety of speleothems and paleontological sites. PETAR is home to many plant species typical of the Atlantic Forest, such as canela, cedar and juçara palm, and animals such as the jaguar and the muriqui, considered the largest primate in the Americas. The Park is divided into eight administrative management units (Núcleos), four of which are open to visitors: Santana, Ouro Grosso, Caboclos and Casa de Pedra.
