Description

The Parque Natural Municipal Morro do Morcego Dora Hees de Negreiros was established to protect natural and scenic heritage, promote sustainable public use and curb real estate interest in the area. It was created by recategorizing part of the former APA do Morro do Morcego, da Fortaleza de Santa Cruz e dos Fortes do Pico e do Rio Branco, as well as by including other notable areas nearby. In addition to its scenic appeal, the protected area has environmental features that ensure the presence of amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals on the rocky shores, sand ridges and throughout the vegetation that makes up the park. Very popular with canoeing groups, the Park has a signposted trail, the Trilha do Morro do Morcego. Its route includes stretches along the seashore and through native vegetation, as well as different climbing options. At the end of the trail, you can see a large part of the Baía de Guanabara, as well as the main sights of Niterói and Rio de Janeiro.
