Parque Natural Municipal da Água Escondida
Description
The Parque Natural Municipal da Água Escondida is a 62-hectare strictly protected area located in the central part of the municipality of Niterói, close to areas with considerable urban development. In contrast, the park harbors fauna and flora characteristic of the Atlantic Forest biome, with a great diversity of tree specimens, historic ruins and buildings, steep slopes, valleys, springs and seeps. The establishment of the protected area was driven by the appreciation of a significant historical and cultural heritage for the municipality, the preservation of many springs and seeps, the protection of natural heritage encompassing biodiversity and geodiversity, the maintenance of ecosystem services provided to society, the encouragement of scientific research and the provision of leisure options in natural spaces, which include visitation, recreation, sports, interpretation and environmental education, religious activities and relaxation.
