Parque Nacional do Mapinguari

Description

The Mapinguari, which gives this park its name, is a mythical creature from Amazonian folklore that inhabits the forests of Brazil and Bolivia. The park, created in 2008 to curb deforestation in the region, can be visited free of charge with authorization from ICMBio. Access is by road, and road conditions are better after April, when the rains end. A base for the ICMBio team and a campground for tourists are under construction, with completion scheduled for August 2024.
