Description
The park protects the biodiversity of the caves and of the Peruaçu River, whose name, given by the Xakriabá people, means "large crevices". The park also contains the region's rock paintings, and visits are only allowed with a guide. Although it has excellent visitor facilities, Parque Nacional Cavernas do Peruaçu should be avoided from September to November because of the higher risk of wildfires.
