Parque Estadual Serra do Mar - Núcleo Curucutu
Santos, São Paulo
Save

Description
The Núcleo Curucutu, created in 1977, covers parts of the municipalities of São Paulo, Itanhaém, Mongaguá, and Juquitiba and originated from the former Fazenda Curucutu, a charcoal producer acquired by the State in 1958 and turned into a Forest Reserve. Even then, its goal was to preserve the springs and water sources of the São Paulo metropolitan region, through the Capivari, Monos, and Embu Guaçu rivers, which feed the Guarapiranga reservoir and the Mambu/Rio Branco System in Itanhaém, helping to supply more than five million people. It harbors ecosystems of the Atlantic Forest biome, especially cloud grasslands.
