Description

Serra do Intendente State Park is located in the large massif of the Serra do Espinhaço, and its boundaries are within the Serra do Espinhaço Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO on June 26, 2005. It is a park rich in biodiversity as it is situated at the transition between the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado biomes, in addition to being abundant in water resources. The park has 356 springs within its limits and is marked by the presence of large waterfalls. It is located in the districts of Tabuleiro and Itacolomi, in the municipality of Conceição do Mato Dentro. The park is famous for its imposing cliffs and the high concentration of large waterfalls, such as the Cachoeira do Tabuleiro in the Upper Part, which, although the base of the fall, at 273m, is in the Municipal Natural Park of Tabuleiro, the upper part and the springs of the Ribeirão do Campo are within the State Park. Cachoeira Rabo de Cavalo: One of the most sought after, with about 150m of fall divided into three cascades and a pool suitable for swimming. Peixe Tolo Canyon: Houses the Cachoeira da Bocaina, with a drop of 200m that cascades down a quartzite cliff. Cachoeira do Altar: Has a drop of 30m and a large pool, accessed by a medium-level trail. Cachoeira do Congonhas: Located in a more preserved area, offers a privileged view of the cliffs of the mountain range. Crossings: The park is the stage for classic crossings, such as the one that connects the district of Tabuleiro to Lapinha da Serra.
