Parque Estadual Rio do Peixe
Dracena, São Paulo
Save

Description
The area designated as Parque do Rio do Peixe covers municipalities that have the river as their territorial boundary: Ouro Verde, Dracena, Presidente Venceslau, and Piquerobi, all in western São Paulo state. Created in 2002, it is the result of environmental compensation for the impacts caused by the formation of the Usina Engenheiro Sérgio Motta reservoir. Together with Parque do Aguapeí, it serves to preserve the last stretches of várzea (floodplain) ecosystems, which once existed along much of the São Paulo rivers that flowed into the Paraná River. With features similar to the Pantanal, this stretch of the Rio do Peixe has become known as ‘Pantaninho Paulista’.
