Description

The Parque Estadual de Porto Ferreira (PEPF) covers 611.55 hectares and once belonged to the Fazenda Santa Mariana. Its land was acquired by the São Paulo State Government in 1962, and one of the purposes of its creation was to preserve a significant number of century-old and/or endangered plant specimens, such as towering jequitibás, cedars and perobas. In the PEPF, the main environments of the protected area are the Cerrado (CE), the Seasonal Semideciduous Forest (FES) with its beautiful emergent trees, and the riparian forest of the Rio Mogi Guaçu, the region's main river. These different habitats serve as an important refuge for animal species such as the maned wolf, giant anteater, deer, capuchin monkeys, toucans and others, as well as for more than 600 plant species.
