Description

Created in October 1960 as a Forest Reserve, it became a State Park through State Law No. 7,528 in 1998. The terrain is mountainous with an altitude variation from 1,600 to 2,039 meters, culminating in the Pico do Forno Grande, a large conical granite rock mass that can be seen from great distances. In this region of the Capixaba mountains, Italian colonization predominates. The immigrants who settled there began to identify the peak as a large-scale representation of their bread ovens. The vegetation is notable for the presence of endemic species and for its altitude forest formation, which is very rare in the country. Its fauna includes animals on the endangered species list, such as the jaguarundi and the monkey-hawk. In 1996, there was a record of the presence of a jaguar, which can be seen in videos and photos available at the Visitor Center, where one can even see one of its prey that was lost while escaping from a trap. The Visitor Center also features a rich exhibition of local fauna.
