Parque Estadual da Serra do Tabuleiro

Description
A protective cradle of the Atlantic Forest, Parque Estadual da Serra do Tabuleiro is the largest protected area in the state of Santa Catarina, occupying approximately 1% of its territory. Covering a vast area that stretches from the coastal islands to the mountain region, it features several ecosystems characteristic of the biome, such as restinga (coastal sandy-plain vegetation), mangroves, cloud forest, and high-altitude grasslands. With its geological importance and rich biodiversity, Parque Estadual da Serra do Tabuleiro, whose headquarters is in the municipality of Palhoça, is also home to the headwaters of the Vargem do Braço, Cubatão, and D'Una rivers, which supply much of the southern coast of Santa Catarina and its capital, Florianópolis.
