The most common activity at PESP is hiking; however, for other adventure activities you must contact the park administration and sign a Risk Awareness Statement. Main attractions include: Pico do Papagaio and its surroundings, including Pedra Quadrada, Pedra Redonda, Pico do Santuário, Crista do Tamanduá, Alto do Bandeira, Pico do Canjica, and Retiro dos Pedros. Between Itamonte, Alagoa, Baependi, and Pouso Alto lies Pico do Santo Agostinho, the highest point in the park, at 2,359 m above sea level. In Baependi, highlights include Pico do Careta (Morro do Chapéu), Chapadão, Canjica, Chorão, Vale das Araucárias, and Cachoeira do Charco. The park's surroundings also have attractions and are popular with visitors. Some of the sites around the park are the Complexo da Cachoeira do Juju (Baependi), Cachoeira do Fundo (Matutu/Aiuruoca), and Cachoeira dos Garcias (Vale dos Garcias/Aiuruoca). Guidelines PESP uses a remote visitor registration system, done online through the form provided for that purpose. It is also available on the park's Facebook page. Local guides: due to the park's vast size and the many access routes, many of them without proper signage, we recommend going with a local guide. Lodging in the park: the “Chalé das Araucárias,” located at the headquarters/Fazenda Santa Rita, is open to visitors for overnight stays. The “Abrigo do Vale,” also next to the headquarters, will open soon. There is currently no developed campground, only rustic camping areas designated by the park. There is no charge yet in these areas, and rustic camping is permitted as long as visitors follow the visitation rules and respect the designated camping areas. Camping outside the designated areas is not permitted. Permitted rustic camping spots - click here. There is a wide network of guesthouses around the park in the municipalities of Aiuruoca, Alagoa, Itamonte, Baependi, and Pouso Alto.
