Description

The Núcleo Cabuçu opened to the public in 2008 as a result of an environmental compensation agreement between the Instituto Florestal, the Serviço Autônomo de Água e Esgoto de Guarulhos (SAAE), and CDR-Pedreira. Its highlights include the century-old Barragem do Cabuçu, the Recanto do Bugio, and the nature interpretation trails. According to the park's management plan, the dam is a historic landmark considered the first major engineering work to use a bold technique, pioneering the use of reinforced concrete. The concrete used in its construction came from England, arriving in Brazil, and then São Paulo, in wooden barrels. Construction began around 1904 and was completed in 1907, thus forming the Cabuçu reservoir. The dam's importance has been the subject of a study for its listing as historical heritage. At Recanto do Bugio, there is a spot with crystal-clear water from one of the region's springs.
