Parque Estadual Campina do Encantado

Description
The Parque Estadual Campina do Encantado is located in the state of São Paulo, in the region known as Vale do Ribeira. It was created by Decree 8 873, of August 16, 1994, under the name Parque Estadual de Pariquera Abaixo. After a public consultation with local schools and communities, it received its current name on May 26, 1999. The fauna is very rich and diverse, with many kinds of birds and animals, and there are plant species at risk of extinction, such as the juçara palm. Among its main attractions is the methane-rich peat bog, where you can burn the gas coming from the subsoil through a hole made with a 3-meter pole, producing a distinctive flame 80 cm above the ground - which is why the place is known as Campina do Encantado, giving rise to countless local legends.
