Description

Parque Ecológico Lauro Müller, also known as Ecológico do Catetinho, is an environmental preservation area in the Federal District, Brazil. It is named after Lauro Müller, the engineer responsible for building Brasília. The park is especially significant because of its link to the Catetinho, the first official residence of then-president of Brazil Juscelino Kubitschek during the construction of Brasília. The park aims to preserve the history and the environment of the region and to offer visitors leisure activities, environmental education, and ecotourism. It covers an area of preserved cerrado (Brazilian savanna), with hiking trails, birdwatching, picnic areas, and recreation spaces. The Catetinho is also an attraction in its own right within the park. It is a simple, historic building that served as temporary housing for Juscelino Kubitschek and his team during the first years of the construction of Brasília, between 1956 and 1958. Today the Catetinho is a museum that recreates the atmosphere of the time and gives visitors a glimpse into the life and work of the pioneers who built the Brazilian capital. Parque Ecológico Lauro Müller is an important place for preserving the history and nature of the Federal District, giving visitors the chance to learn about the history of Brazil and enjoy the natural beauty of the Brazilian cerrado.
