Description

The São João Marcos Archaeological and Environmental Park houses the remains of the city founded in 1739, which was destroyed 200 years later for the construction of the Ribeirão das Lajes Reservoir. All visitors enjoy comfort and safety to peacefully experience a truly multisensory journey. During a walk through the Park, it is possible to admire breathtaking landscapes that blend the beauty of the Atlantic Forest and Ribeirão das Lajes, listen to the birdsong, and observe the birds. Available on site are a Memory Center (with a scale model, exhibition panels, and totems), a tour guide, an amphitheater, a cine-gallery, an exhibition gallery corridor, and a soccer field honoring the stars of Marcossense Futebol Clube, a team remembered by old fans as unbeatable. There is also the “Obra Escola” Space, where, through illustrative panels in comic-strip format, children are playfully introduced to the world of archaeology; an organic garden where students grow and harvest pesticide-free food; a nursery; a reading area; a sensory garden; parking; and an accessible restroom. The Park is pet-friendly and admission is free. Open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more details, visit: https://saojoaomarcos.com.br/
