Floresta Estadual Edmundo Navarro de Andrade - FEENA

Description
The Horto Florestal Edmundo Navarro de Andrade, today Floresta Estadual Edmundo Navarro de Andrade, was created in 1909. Edmundo Navarro de Andrade lived at the forest nursery, making the site a center for extensive research on eucalyptus, where the results of his work were archived, giving rise to the Museu do Eucalipto in 1916. At the end of the 19th century, there was a shortage of raw materials for maintaining and building railroads. To meet the demand for wood for railroad ties and charcoal, the Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro created forest nurseries in several towns in the interior of São Paulo. Among them was the largest, in Rio Claro, created in 1909, whose name honored Edmundo Navarro de Andrade, who in 1914 brought 144 species of eucalyptus from Australia.
