A little about the city
São José dos Ausentes is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Its latitude and altitude make it one of the coldest municipalities in the country. It was created as a district under the name Ausentes (formerly a village) by Municipal Law No. 9 of June 5, 1948, subordinate to the municipality of Aparados da Serra, now Bom Jesus, and was elevated to the status of municipality by State Law No. 9.559 of March 20, 1992.
