A little about the city
Iraquara is a municipality located in the central region of the state of Bahia, Brazil. It is surrounded by rock formations, caves, grottoes, and waterfalls, making it a popular destination for ecotourism and adventure tourism. The main natural attractions of the region include the Cachoeira do Buracão, the Cachoeira da Fumaça, the Gruta da Torrinha, and the Gruta da Lapa Doce. Iraquara has a rich history that dates back to the days of the diamond rush in the Chapada Diamantina. The town is home to ruins of old diamond-mining sites (garimpos) and historic buildings, such as the Igreja Matriz de Santo Antônio, built in the 19th century. The Iraquara region is known for its important archaeological sites, where rock paintings and traces of the presence of prehistoric peoples have been found. The Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina protects several of these archaeological areas and promotes their conservation. Besides its natural attractions, Iraquara offers opportunities for rural tourism, with properties that offer accommodation amid nature, local farm production, nature trails, and experiences of country life.
