The Santana Farm was built between 1821 and 1840, serving as the residence of the Portugal family. Much of the property bordered the Rio do Braço, a tributary of the Rio Piraí, in its final kilometers before their confluence. At the farm, the Portugal family produced goods such as coffee, cornmeal, and aguardente. This cemetery, constructed with stone and lime, is the family’s official burial site, serving as the resting place for the first members of the Portugal family in the region.
